The Reading Ladies is a group of independent tutors committed to  providing students with educational opportunities utilizing research based, multi-sensory programs.   Our personalized approach encourages the success of our students experiencing difficulty with reading and math.

Tutors incorporate methods and materials from a number of reading and math programs in which they are trained, including, but not limited to, LINDAMOOD-BELL®, Wilson Language®, Great Leaps©, Direct Instruction©, and RAVE-O©.

Our goal for each student  is to create a supportive learning environment that fosters intellectual growth and self-confidence.  Teaching methods promote development of decoding skills by stimulating multi-sensory awareness. Students will learn to detect and manipulate sounds within single syllable and multi-syllable words for both reading and spelling. Orthographic expectancies (rules) and sight words are also introduced.

Once students are able to decode and read words, lessons will emphasize fluency and comprehension, and encourage higher order thinking.  Similarly, instruction in mathematics stimulates the ability to visualize and verbalize the concepts underlying mathematical processes.  Emphasis is placed on both mathematical reasoning and mathematical computation.

Individual sessions for pre-school through high school aged students take place at the Community House in Hinsdale, Illinois, a suburb 20 miles west of Chicago.  Fifty-five (55) minute sessions are $70.  It is generally preferable for students to attend at least two sessions a week.
